Full-time Ph.D. students receive financial support in the form of teaching assistantships (TA), graduate (research) assistantships (GA), or various fellowships available from
university, industrial, and governmental sources. Further details on these awards are available from the Executive Officer of the Graduate Program(Click here to send an email to the Executive Officer.).
First-year graduate students are normally supported by teaching assistantships or fellowships. New TAs are assigned to supervise laboratory sections in either general or organic chemistry. TA teaching loads are relatively light: 5 or 6 contact hours per week plus additional time spent on preparation and grading. TA stipends are accompanied by complete remission of tuition and comprehensive medical insurance is provided.
