HelenBermanACAFellowAn early pioneer in scientific data sharing, Helen Berman was honored as an Fellow of the American Crystallographic Association (ACA).  The ACA fellows program was established to recognize a high level of excellence in scientific research, teaching, and professional duties, but also service, leadership, and personal engagement in the ACA and the broader world of crystallography and science.

In parallel to her research and studies in the structural biology of collagen, protein-nucleic acid interactions, and binary and ternary complexes with catabolite activating protein (CAP), Helen develops structural databases and ontologies that make structural data accessible and understandable by a broad community.  These resources include the RCSB Protein Data Bank, the Structural Biology Knowledgebase, and the EMDataBank.org.  Helen also co-founded the Worldwide PDB organization that manages the PDB archive, which currently contains around 75000 structures of proteins, nucleic acids, and molecular machines.

ACA Fellows will serve as scientific ambassadors to the broader scientific community and the general public to advance science education, research, knowledge, interaction, and collaboration.
