The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, located on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, is committed to providing exceptional education through classroom instruction and the laboratory training of research scientists. We aim to advance the field of chemistry and the fields connected to it and to tackle the ever-evolving challenges and opportunities facing our state and our world in areas including health, energy, and the environment.
We recognize and celebrate the diversity of our community, relying on it to guide and inform our commitment to education and service. As a national leader in chemistry research and education, we provide our graduate and undergraduate students with world-class opportunities through broad interdisciplinary academic and research programs, preparing them to become leaders in industry, academia, and government.
With state-of-the-art research facilities and internationally-recognized faculty, we have the tools and people needed to develop and explore groundbreaking ideas across the many fields touched by chemistry.
Chemistry is a cornerstone of New Jersey’s economy, accounting for over a quarter of the state's yearly exports. This provides a unique opportunity for our students and researchers to interface with the many large and small chemical companies throughout the state.
We opened our new signature building in September 2018. With its flexible labs; state-of-the-art facilities; and modern teaching, conferencing, and other spaces that promote collaboration, this building has enhanced our education and research. It will continue to elevate our broad interdisciplinary academic and research programs – further strengthening our region's economy and society.
