When can I apply?
Prospective students can begin applying for one or more of these programs beginning July 1 for the spring semester and September 1 for the fall semester.
Can I apply to the PhD program in the spring or summer?
CCB only enrolls new PhD students for entrance in the Fall semester.
Is a sponsor required for international students to apply to the graduate programs?
No, researching faculty is a good idea, but a sponsor is not required. Prospective students are more than welcome to reach out to CCB faculty. Please note, faculty cannot accept application documents via email; please do not send any documents directly to faculty.
Can I contact CCB faculty before I apply?
You are welcome to contact CCB faculty to inquire about their research group. The research advisor selection process takes place during the Fall semester of the first year.
Can I get an English proficiency waiver?
International students who have completed a minimum of three years of undergraduate studies or two years in a master's program at an institution where the mode of instruction is English are exempt from submitting TOEFL, IELTS, or DET scores. Applicants must provide documentation from the institution noting English instruction or provide a Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate.
Is an interview required as part of the application process?
CCB's review board may request applicant interviews. Applicants will be informed of the request to interview with a faculty member. Interviews will be held virtually.
Do you offer fee waivers?
No, CCB does not offer fee waivers. Applications are automatically reviewed by the New Brunswick Graduate Admissions Office for fee waiver eligibility.
How do I apply for financial assistance?
Rutgers University's Office of Financial Aid's primary objective is to assist students with planning for and meeting expenses associated with your program. Staff will review student eligibility for grants, loans, and employment and provide financial aid counseling to students and families.
The chemistry department at Rutgers University provides full support (tuition, health insurance, and monthly stipend) to accepted PhD students in good academic standing for five years of study. Support is given regardless of citizenship or financial need and there is no need to file a separate application. This financial support is not a loan and does not have to be repaid.
Is there funding for Master's students?
At this time, CCB does not offer funding for master's students.
I've applied to your PhD program; when will I hear about my application status?
We do not have a set date, but decisions are typically released in March. All students will be contacted before April 15th.
I've been waitlisted; how do I find out my ranking on the waitlist?
We do not have a ranking for the waitlist. As the April 15th deadline approaches, enrollment offers may be extended to waitlisted applicants.
